The Gboard keyboard is testing an artificial intelligence-based linguistic proofreading feature
Google is currently working on developing a new feature in the Gboard keyboard that enables users to perform linguistic proofreading of texts. This feature, called "Proofread," was launched in a trial version of the app, specifically in version 13.4 Beta on the Android operating system.
This addition stands out as it appears in the keyboard toolbar as a quick and effective tool for instant text checking. It detects spelling and grammar errors and correctly places punctuation marks using generative artificial intelligence capabilities. Additionally, the feature provides suggestions for corrections, and there is an option called "Fix it" to correct errors automatically.
This improvement is considered a significant evolution of the already known auto-correction feature, as the texts are sent to Google's servers for processing.
Furthermore, Google is experimenting with other AI-based features in the Gboard keyboard, such as the ability to create stickers using artificial intelligence and rephrasing messages in different formats. These features are still under development and are expected to become available to users through future app updates.
Gboard is one of the most popular default keyboards, coming pre-installed on most Android devices, and it can also be downloaded for free on Apple devices.
It has been previously mentioned that Google is working on similar features in other applications such as document editing and email, as part of the company's efforts to expand the use of generative AI technologies in its diverse services and applications.
